Creativity

As I sit here watching the sunrise, I find myself thinking about creativity.  Creation.  Our ability to manifest something wonderful and all the excitement, work and love that goes into every thought and process for that creation.   It has been awhile since I have made a blog entry, so this topic seems fitting as I have been busy “creating” something new in my life.

A few of you know that I am a singer, or at least I have been.  Performing in bands, musicals and shows, any piano bar that would let me……Ithas always been a passion of mine.  In my late 20s I was a songwriter, but just like the “entire world,” my songs and voice never made it to the vast stage that is the general public.  My passion and love for singing and writing has been rekindled since I met Eric, and together we have created our first song.

I can’t tell you the joy and happiness that working on and completing this song has brought me.  It rekindled my passion for telling my story thru music.  I certainly have my TV ArtScapes Nature Series and all the joy that creating these wonderful Nature DVDs brings, but now I have another outlet to express myself, and hopefully inspire. It has been so fun, working with someone that shares my passion for music. Oh yeah, and he is  also an awesome guitar player!  I am so blessed to have found my voice again.

We have been lucky enough to have found a place to hone our passion for singing.  It has been at the Vincent Hill Station Restaurant and Saloon, in Acton, California. We are known simply as “Eric and Veronica” and our picture, skillfully taken by JC Forbes, hangs on the “wall of fame” with other performers.  You can find us there most Sunday afternoons from 3:00 to 7:00PM.  We hope to unveil our new song in a few weeks. And as soon as I can find some extra time in the studio, it will be on YouTube!

All I know, and I can say this from experience, is never, ever, give up on the dream of what you want your life to be.  We have dreams and goals for a reason. Dreams are usually what fuels us. Dreams are  most always linked to our purpose in life.  Don’t deny the journey to explore and refine your passions.  The reward for that journey is far more valuable than giving up.  It’s a journey of self discovery, sometimes disappointing, sometimes joyous, but always enlightening.  And perhaps you will find fulfillment, contentment and love along the way.

What do you want to create? Do it now. There is no time better to start then today!

Love and Light Always,

ADVENTURE Push your limits

Fun, excitment, pushing limits……We all need it. At least that is what this writer thinks.

Haven’t you ever seen extreme rock climbing, or bungee jumping, skydiving or ziplining and said, “Man, that looks fun but I could never do that!”

The morning started with anticipation and nervousness as we all gathered around the black harnesses laying on the floor.  Our instructors’ names were Amy and Robert, two young pups who had much fun pulling our legs and trying to add a little levity to the situation, as you could see the unspoken nervousness in some peoples eyes. “Anyone ever zipped before?”  Silence.  Instruction began and one of the main training points was how to slow down and brake.  Careful training ensued with step by step instructions about the importance of first looking up at the cable, and then placing your hand in the proper position to brake and have control of your speed.  Assessing your position from the treetop landing station and judging your pressure on the wire was very important.

There were several treetop reiteration of this instruction, especially when my best friend came hurling to a landing station full force without heeding Amy’s bird flapping arms indicating SLOW DOWN.

Zipping across the forest tree-tops at 20-40 miles an hour with nothing but the clothes on your back really empowers you to feel like you have control over your destiny, because in this situation, you REALLY do.   If you do not brake correctly you could come up short at the end of the ZIP and have to pull your way into the treetop station. Brake to late and you could crash and burn.  Well, not really, because Amy and Robert are professionals and there are safeguards for that, but you get my meaning.

I don’t know about you it seems to me most people, including me, get caught up in their everyday routines, and all the pressures of life, and we forget to take risks, forget to challenge ourselves, because frankly, we are too tired. Try to make a real effort to do something to challenge yourself, push your comfort zones.   Zip thru life with excitement and no fear.   If you must put on the brakes, do so smoothly with clear intention.  Take your time to assess all choices, consequences, and responsibilities to arrive at any and all destinations and goals.  We always have the choice and the power over our own destinies, even if, at times, it doesn’t feel like it.

Oh, and if you do try something, and you find that it is too overwhelming to handle for where you are today, remember you can always go back and try again. Sometimes when this happens I like to visualize before actually doing the “push my limits” exercise. Like skydiving.  Pretty intense. I thank God the clouds came in after flight school because I had to wait to jump.  I had a whole week to visualize jumping out of that plane, and it helped when it came time to take that leap.

We all really should try to do something at least once a month, definitely once a year, outside our comfort zone. Push yourself to reach the place of challenge and exhilaration because, believe me, it can change your perspective and have a positive impact on how you feel about yourself and your path. Just try it once.  Like the ad says….Just Do It!

You’ll be glad you did. And remember, “It is said, the man who lives without risk, does not live.”

Appreciation

Open.  What a gift. Life has a way of teaching us so many lessons.   I write this blog because it is one of the places to voice my lessons, observations and stories.  The past 4 months have been stressful, scary and so perfect that I have to write about Appreciation today.
Several things have happened to inspire this topic.  You may have noticed that it has been several months since my last entry.  Well that is due to a few changes in my life that have been both nerve-wracking and quite wonderful….quite perfect to put it more aptly.

On the work front, I have acquired yet another department and quite a large responsibility.  With it comes some hefty learning for me, new staff and all the challenges that brings with it, and the assimilation with my current team. It has been challenging and scary but manageable when I break it up into smaller goals and complete “my check-off” lists.  It has been both stressful and fulfilling as I navigate the new position, staff, and identify operations and improvements needed.

It makes me appreciate my team, who are always on top of their work and who have “can do” attitudes. It makes me appreciate my fellow managers who are very supportive and who teach me new things every day. It makes me appreciate the relationships I have with what I like to call the “Epic core,” a group of hardworking strategists and technical builders. Sometimes if it weren’t for them, I think I would lose my mind! It makes me appreciate my boss for believing in me and giving me so many opportunities to grow and contribute. Sometimes with your work situation, it helps to stop and count your gratitude’s.  It helps the days go by smoother and sometimes allows you to regroup from a negative attitude, giving a perspective on how it really could be much worse. Especially since so many struggle with not even having a job these days.  Count your blessings people.  If you have a job, find the thankfulness. If you don’t and are searching, be thankful for the opportunities that are coming your way and ask for the openness and grace to recognize it when it appears.

AND, now for the “quite perfect” part of this entry.  As I start this part of the entry, I’m sitting in the backyard with the sun rising, the grapevines overhead and the morning stillness, and a crow flies overhead.  My Native American animal cards come to mind and I look up Crow.

Crow is an omen of change. The Ancient Chiefs tell us that Crow sees simultaneously the three fates – past, present, and future. If Crow medicine appears, learn to allow your personal integrity to be your guide. Your personal will can then emerge so that you will stand in your truth. The prime path of true Crow people says to be mindful of your opinions and actions. Be willing to walk your talk, speak your truth, know your life’s mission, and balance past, present, and future in the now. Shape shift that old reality and become your future self. Allow the bending of physical laws to aid in creating the shape shifted world of peace and love.

All of this is so true, especially for me now. About 4 months ago, practicing the concepts I stated in my “Open” entry, I met a very special man.  It had been a long time coming and I had always tried to believe that one day I would find the love of my life.  Searching for the special connection always eluded me.  Sure there were connections, but this was so different. A powerful, deep connection that comes with knowing and feeling real love and great joy that you are occupying the same world together. Time and space disappear and you feel connected……always.

It has been my greatest joy, and I so appreciate him and how our life together is unfolding. It has taken many years to find, and yes, I was just about to give up hope. But shifting to “Open” made a difference in my daily life.  Accepting whatever the situation was in every given circumstance, knowing who I was and honoring and living that regardless of what others thought or said allowed me to receive.  Living your life authentically is magic, and practicing real appreciation sometimes forces acceptance and allows “Open” to happen.
* Always live your truth.
* Live life to the fullest, with integrity, thankfulness and appreciation for where you are now.
* Be open to the opportunities Mother-Father-God will bring you.  She only brings what we can handle.

The Native American “Crow” medicine description burns in my mind as I leave you to find your authentic self and open to life’s loves and experiences.

  • Learn to allow your personal integrity to be your guide, and your sense of feeling alone will vanish. Your personal will can then emerge so that you will stand in your truth.
  •  Be mindful of your opinions and actions. Be willing to walk your talk, speak your truth, know your life’s mission, and balance past, present, and future in the now.
  • Shape shift that old reality and become your future self.
  • Allow the bending of physical laws to aid in creating the shape shifted world of peace, love, thankfulness and opportunity.

Blessed be….

Permission

Sitting here watching the sailboats go out of the marina, the sun trying to crack thru the haze, I see birds flocking around the empty tables looking for any morsel of nourishment they can find.  Peaceful when no one is around, but I know soon it will be bustling with people, adults and kids alike, taking advantage of the beautiful holiday weekend.

Yes, I’m not working today.  I had to sit down with myself yesterday and have a serious talk.  I have been running myself into the ground with work certifications, extra curricular activities and my businesses at home with no time for myself at all.  Looking in the mirror lately is just scary!  So I set some time aside to clean the house, it was such a mess.  When I was done I took a long, hot bath, went to bed early and promised myself that I had to take care of having a day off at least once a week.

Now unless you know me, you do not know how hard that is to do!  I always feel like I have to be doing something, especially for my businesses.  A very good and wise friend asked me, “Who has set the deadline on anything for your businesses?”  I had to stop and say, well me.  Why am I doing this to myself.  It is just crazy.

I told myself, well there ARE reasons.  I have to make sure I write the blog at least monthly, I have to do a News show at least monthly, I have to get the new Website up, I have to actually finish the 3 DVDs in post-production for TV ArtScapes…..and of course, I have to go to my regular work 50 hours a week!  Man, I need to get a life, I thought.

Another very good friend of mine came to my rescue a few weeks ago when I was in meltdown mode.  He said, you know, if you put all that energy into the film you want to make, you’d have it done in a year.  I thought, about it, and you know, he is so right. But would putting all my other projects on hold for a year feel like I failed? I thought it might but again, there is really no timeline but the one I have set.  And my pursuits and energy, while very diverse, have allowed me to realize and create many of my dream projects, but having limited time, exhausts me for sure!

So it’s all about permission.  Giving yourself permission to take the road and path you feel the most strongly about.  Make the decision and have laser focus on that path.  You will accomplish what you need to do, or if you don’t, you may found out you want to change that path or at least find out what NOT to do on the way to that goal.

So give yourself permission to have laser focus.  If you have other pursuits, don’t feel like you have failed, they are “on hold” for now.  While you go after your dream, and experience life to the fullest!  Blessing to all, and my you live life to the fullest!

Love and Light Always!

Choose Love

I sat on the edge of the Grand Canyon. The snow was so white, and it glistened as it lay next to the red and orange rock that made up a frightening drop off a cliff. The snow had stopped just hours before and the clouds, light from the release, looked like cotton in the sky, and they threw eerie shadows over this great wonder of the world.  The wind was cold and it whipped thru the Canyon, as if to announce, “I can whip thru the open air  and I can go wherever I want; over your Cliffs, thru your trees, down ravines.”  It didn’t care if there were walls and cliffs a mile deep, it found it’s way to the bottom and back up again, sometimes with such force it knocked over weak signs and old tree trunks that had the life taken from them, except for the snakes and critters that might call them home.

What a place.  I seem so small compared to this great Canyon, a beauty of mother earth that has been a place of wonder and astonishment for centuries.  Being here, any worries or supposed hardships in my life, any doubts, any negativity or hurt seems to melt away.  There is only Love, love of this place called Earth and its’ mysteries, love of the people I see here, love for myself; feelings of awe, blessings, and peace.  How I wish everyone could experience it. To open your heart and feel love all around and feel so full.  I tell you it is the best medicine on earth!

I am so happy and fortunate to have my friends, my work, my family….my life.  We all have hardships, to varying degrees. But no matter where our paths have taken us, we always have the power and the choice to love.  Never forget that.  You don’t have to be in a wonderful, inspiring place to feel and experience the love, all you have to do is chose it. It’s there, believe me.

This Holiday season, remember to sprinkle each day with love.  No matter where you are, no matter what time, what place, what people you are with, always remember to open your heart to Love.  Be thankful for what you have and who you are.  And know that you are loved too.

Peace and Love to you my friends, always…..

Relax Already!

Relax Already!

So you would think that being in one of the most beautiful places on earth would make one relax, wind down and really take life slow, releasing all the tensions and problems one thinks is clogging up their life. Well, I’m here to tell you…. no! It’s not that easy for some of us.

There I was in Maui, at the beautiful Hyatt Hotel with stunning waterfalls, lagoons, and several pools right on the ocean, and it still was hard to just relax, sleep on a lounge chair or read a book, at least for an hour or two. I was still so anxious and in work mode, it was hard to “turn off” totally. I know it will take a few days…thank goodness I was there for a few days, at least I’ll be relaxed by the third day….I hope.

Does it take you some time to decompress? Do you get anxious or feel like you should be “doing” something to fill up the time? I, at least, have my videography and filming that makes me feel like I am not “wasting time.” And what is wasting time? Why do some of us feel that if we are not pursing our passions, working towards something or visiting family or friends that we are “wasting time?” I guess it comes from being a type A personality, where nothing is ever quite done, nothing is ever perfect. I have to sit down with myself and have a heart to heart talk, and give myself permission to relax. Permission to let time run out and watch it go by with absolutely no regret for not filling it with work, or calls or “business stuff.” I was going to be filming in a few days and that is my greatest joy, but until then, laying by the pool, sipping a pina colada and making new friends was just gonna have to do! It’s rough…..I know.

So give yourself permission to just be and enjoy time without feeling like you have to be somewhere, be doing anything or talking to anyone. Enjoy the “Being” and the rejuvenation will begin. You will have a fresh perspective on everything and you can actually start the process of learning how to “be” all the time, even when you are home, at work or in stressful situations. Teach yourself to take a moment to check into the “being” state. It is the Now, it is sacred, and it is necessary….for all of us.

Peace and love my friends. May you find the state of “being,’ relaxed and rejuvenated by life’s simple moments. They are life’s greatest moments.  Mahalo….

Dreams

DreamsDreams.   We all have them.

Something that makes our heart dance and our soul sing.  Something that we know we were born to do.   But how many of us have given up on our dreams?  How many times have we made excuses and justified not following our hearts desire? How many times have someone said to us, you’re crazy!  You’d give up XYZ to go and do that?  How many times have we passed up opportunity for comfort or “being safe?”

Having a “great job” has it benefits as well as its’ traps if you are not pursuing your passion.  Giving up on your dreams is a sure way to age and have those horrible emotions depression and regret visit your door. Don’t let it happen!

So with that said, I have embarked on a new adventure!  One of my dreams has always been to empower and inspire women.  Having come from a less than positive childhood, I have always felt the need to empower  women to believe that they are powerful, beautiful, sexy women, who have total control over their destiny. …. .at any age, size, shape, or color. There are many stereotypes and assumptions made about people and with the constant media stream of what is considered beautiful and acceptable, judgments and labels abound.  One label that has emerged, hardly new but more used now, is the label “cougar.”   This label is being used for women, over the age of 40 who enjoy going after what they want, are confident and secure in who they are and have the courage to go after it,….Oh, and what they tend to like is the company of younger men.  I love that!

Unfortunately, the label has become a negative one, with a horrible TV show in past years called “The Cougar” and the recent addition to the fall line-up “Cougartown” with Courtney Cox.  I’ve been watching it and at least every women in it is not a sleeze or desperate, older women on the prowl….but it’s close.  The jury is still out on this one.

My take on the whole thing is why do women have to be labeled if they date younger men?  If they are confident, know what they want, are independent and go after it…why the animal label? I’m sure a man came up with that one!

So, with all that said, besides producing the “TV ArtScapes” relaxation nature series for HD and big screen TVs, my latest endeavor takes me to producing my own women’s news magazine show.   Granted I have taken advantage of this term ”cougar” for part of the title, “The Cougar News,” but only in that I want to change the perception and make it a positive one.  One that means a women is confident, happy, secure, independent, beautiful and knows what she wants, and personally, I don’t think that’s a bad thing, Frankly, It’s about time.

So to all the women out there, at any age….you are Wise, Powerful, Beautiful…and Youth is in your Passions and Dreams.  Go and Get it!

Tools For The Modern Relationship

by Sexy Mom Expert, Alana Pratt
I believe a sexy mom is a mom who is at peace in her skin… who is at peace with life, the challenges and the bliss. A Sexy Mom savors moments, greets the world with sensuality, grace and a little sass. She knows she’s a goddess and thus doesn’t have to prove a thing. Her heart remains open even when she’s scared, angry or sad…she makes love to the world.

Now, in the past week I’ve decided to sell my house, I don’t know where I’m going to live yet, and two nights ago my boyfriend of a year told me his 6 month sabbatical in Canada is now going to be 3 years and that he wants to complete our relationship. I was not feeling very sexy. Through my tears I felt all my feelings, anger, even betrayal, then deep hurt and loss, then by keeping my heart open, I felt a deep stir of YES… this is right, let go, release Good for Great, I’m allowed to have my dreams now, I hereby give myself permission to live fully, shine fully, love fully and release fully in this moment. Then we actually prayed for my next divine masculine partner to show up. He said he couldn’t rest until he knew I was supported, seen and loved by a great man, who could help me parent my son and who could remind me of my light daily. Wow. It’s crazy but I love him more now than ever. I am more radiant now than ever because I’m vulnerable, spirit is able to move through me, I’m not trying to make the long distance relationship stay together and I’m not struggling to make enough money to stay in this huge stunning wonderful home. I’m free, open, raw, radiant and alive. And darn it… I’m sexy.

Here is the format of communication that my wonderful former boyfriend and I used to keep our relationship fresh, honest, open, deep, profound and joyful. I know that we built a solid foundation of communication through this practice that allowed us to complete our relationship with such love and blessing. It will help you keep your heart open through any challenge you may face in your marriage and is even great to do with your kids.

The Dyad-Two Way Communication
Create a regular time to ask each other these questions. You may begin it sacredly with lighting a candle and bowing… or you may ask the questions out for dinner… just ask the questions. The only answer you may offer is “Thank you.” Go back and forth with each question for 2 minutes then move to the next question. You are never to speak again about what you heard. This is to bridge a line of safe, honoring communication between you two. I credit this teaching to Satyen Raja of www.warriorsage.com

• Tell me something you like about me. (creates affinity)
• Tell me something you think we align on. (reminds you that you’re on the same team)
• Tell me something you think I should know. (allows a safe space to tell the truth, the hurt beneath the anger, the pain of not being respected, etc.)

Choose Your Path

Last week was about Time, this week it’s choosing the right path to reach your dream.    I have found that being able to do many things can be both a blessing and a curse.  Keeping up with all my new business ventures and ideas, I sometimes find it hard to focus on what path I need to take FIRST.  I’ve done the brainstorming and dreaming, now it’s time to tackle the MAIN project that I am passionate about.  This is where it gets hard.

I’m passionate about all of them! OK- doing 8 million projects half-assed is not going to work! In order to keep my sanity and actually make progress toward my goals, I have to put some things on the back burner.  I always feel like I am going to miss the boat if I don’t implement and finish a project as soon as I envision it,  but having the discipline to stay on track with a primary goal is important for success.

Don’t spread yourself too thin with project after project.  Starting out on your own with little or no capitol and alot of ideas can be discouraging to say the least.  But DO WHAT YOU LOVE, do what makes you happy, do what feeds your soul…..and it will all come together.

My passion is creativity, on all levels.  One passion is photography.  I took all the pictures on this blog either with a digital camera or from a video still.  One project is to make cards and bookmarks with inspirational sayings with these images.  Another passion is nature, videography and editing, hence the creation of TV ArtScapes DVDs.  And let’s not forget filmmaking – Producing shows that inspire, inform, motivate and make us laugh!  We sure could use it with what is out there right now!!!

Notice healthcare is not on the passion list?  I’ve been doing that for 24 years.  It has served me well but the path I choose now is my creativity.

So people, What do you dream of doing?  Is there a particular path you feel compelled to take?  What steps can you take to be on that path?  Let’s all Dream this week, shall we?  and remember to

Love, Live and choose Your Path,
