Challenges

ChallengesChallenges are always at the root of growth. They can be issues that are work related, family, friends….maybe even our very thoughts on where we stand with religion, our country, and the state of the world.

I have always welcomed challenge, as it is an opportunity for personal growth. An opportunity to demonstrate who I really am as well as reflect on any choices I make and how they impact the world and others. Facing difficult situations is also a great time to evaluate what is really important in your life, what is worth your time and energy. If dealing with a stressful situation leaves you drained and unable to be yourself and who you truly are, maybe it’s time to re-evaluate your participation? If you decide to continue to engage the challenge, how might you take care of yourself in combating stress, fatigue, anger or depression?

Challenges are thrown up daily, and we can develop our own prescriptions to fight these burn-out symptoms, and help us master the art of “being.” I like to say “BE” stands for Beginning and End. Beginning and End occupy the same time, which is NOW. In order to just experience the NOW, we need to be present and not allow thoughts and worries about the past or future, about those “challenges” that might have derailed our stability.

I always try to make the time to go to a beach, a lake or take a walk in nature if life drains my psyche.   Reflection for me is so much easier away from the constant barrage of electronics and people. God’s rhythms of the ocean waves, a waterfall or the wind thru the trees in a forest always makes for a deep connection to “Be” and “Now”, not to mention a total recharge and reconnect for my mind.

So welcome challenges. Welcome them as wonderful chances to grow, reflect, make choices, be in the Now, and reflect who you truly are.   Beautiful and Love.

Remember

SO it’s been several month’s since my last post, and I thought with the Holidays upon us, it was time to do one before the year runs out.

Where do I Start? The past year has been a year of stress, love, no time, performances and best friends.  Work has been unbearably busy with major changes for both my team and vendors, the love of my life continues to amaze me, the time I have to do what I want and need seems non-existent, we have started to get paying gigs for our country music, and we made many new fabulous friends. Why I titled this entry “remember”, is I have been feeling so blessed and happy, yet really frustrated at the same time.  You know how sometimes you get so tired of all life’s challenges and so called growth opportunities?  How you have a great day and something or someone just comes along and screws that good “high” up.  Life…….sometimes it’s a real downer.

When it gets to this point for me, When life’s challenges and choice’s become overwhelming, I turn to Mother-Father- God, ………and remember the good things.

  • If you have a Job, Remember – you are fortunate to have a job, there are so many that don’t.
  • Remember – that one person can’t effect your happiness and joy……. unless you let them.
  • Remember – that every situation has a choice, and you have the power to choose…..always.  and It is in that choice that you define who you really are.
  • Remember – that friends and family are precious……never take them for granted.
  • Remember –  to stop and appreciate the day and time you have…..you will never get this moment back.
  • Remember to say “I really appreciate you” to those you depend on and who are always there for you.
  • Remember to say “I love you”……. And often.

So to begin the Holiday Season…..Remember, and be thankful for what you have, be thankful for who you love and appreciate, and for having another day in this crazy, wonderful life.

Peace. Love. Happiness.

New Years 2014

SO it’s New Years, Again!!!!  This year seemed to fly by as usual and it’s time to reassess our lives, figure out our goals for the coming year and remember all the “stuff” that happened this past year that made us laugh, made us cry and made us who we are. Some people only tend to focus on the good things that happened,  some only the bad.  I say look at everything, for “everything” is what shapes us and makes us grow. It helps to stay away from those “good-bad” labels  too.  I always feel if we can learn and grow from any circumstance, we are a better person for it.

Awareness is always a first step into change for our future.  It allows us to see opportunities to change behaviors  and to be the person we want to be. How we deal with conflict, how we deal with adversity, how we react when someone hurts or angers us.  All these things can provide insight into who we are.  If we are willing to have an honest talk with ourselves and do some self examination, we can discover new strengths and change what we don’t like in ourselves and celebrate the awesomeness that  we do like.

Ask yourself if  you need to change any behaviors to handle situations differently.    Do you need to address others in any way, make amends or express your true feelings?  Be more proactive and decisive when it comes to uncomfortable situations? Work less to spend more time with family?  Work more to handle that large debt or curve spending habits?  Spend more time being thankful for what you have instead of wanting what you don’t have?  Tell those you love that you love them…everyday.   Reassess that relationship with “that” person – you know the one.  The one that never makes you feel good and always makes you doubt yourself,  keeps you walking on eggshells, is a total chore to be around because they are so draining?  Is it time to move on?  Do you need to be more kind, less judgmental? Do you need to take time away from everyone to chill and focus on you?

There are so many things to review in a year, but here is a great thing to do to help with the assessment.  Fill an empty Jar with all the things thathappen in the year.  Come New Years, pull all the notes out and review them.   It’s an awesome way to remember the year and I’m going to do this in 2014.  Thanks  Facebook friends for sharing this tidbit!

So in closing, I want to wish everyone a great New Year.  And remember, The start of a New Year is always a chance for new beginnings, but EVERY DAY is also a chance to start anew!  We hold our world in our hands…… it’s all in the handling of each situation and each moment.

Peace, Love and Prosperity!

Creativity

As I sit here watching the sunrise, I find myself thinking about creativity.  Creation.  Our ability to manifest something wonderful and all the excitement, work and love that goes into every thought and process for that creation.   It has been awhile since I have made a blog entry, so this topic seems fitting as I have been busy “creating” something new in my life.

A few of you know that I am a singer, or at least I have been.  Performing in bands, musicals and shows, any piano bar that would let me……Ithas always been a passion of mine.  In my late 20s I was a songwriter, but just like the “entire world,” my songs and voice never made it to the vast stage that is the general public.  My passion and love for singing and writing has been rekindled since I met Eric, and together we have created our first song.

I can’t tell you the joy and happiness that working on and completing this song has brought me.  It rekindled my passion for telling my story thru music.  I certainly have my TV ArtScapes Nature Series and all the joy that creating these wonderful Nature DVDs brings, but now I have another outlet to express myself, and hopefully inspire. It has been so fun, working with someone that shares my passion for music. Oh yeah, and he is  also an awesome guitar player!  I am so blessed to have found my voice again.

We have been lucky enough to have found a place to hone our passion for singing.  It has been at the Vincent Hill Station Restaurant and Saloon, in Acton, California. We are known simply as “Eric and Veronica” and our picture, skillfully taken by JC Forbes, hangs on the “wall of fame” with other performers.  You can find us there most Sunday afternoons from 3:00 to 7:00PM.  We hope to unveil our new song in a few weeks. And as soon as I can find some extra time in the studio, it will be on YouTube!

All I know, and I can say this from experience, is never, ever, give up on the dream of what you want your life to be.  We have dreams and goals for a reason. Dreams are usually what fuels us. Dreams are  most always linked to our purpose in life.  Don’t deny the journey to explore and refine your passions.  The reward for that journey is far more valuable than giving up.  It’s a journey of self discovery, sometimes disappointing, sometimes joyous, but always enlightening.  And perhaps you will find fulfillment, contentment and love along the way.

What do you want to create? Do it now. There is no time better to start then today!

Love and Light Always,

ADVENTURE Push your limits

Fun, excitment, pushing limits……We all need it. At least that is what this writer thinks.

Haven’t you ever seen extreme rock climbing, or bungee jumping, skydiving or ziplining and said, “Man, that looks fun but I could never do that!”

The morning started with anticipation and nervousness as we all gathered around the black harnesses laying on the floor.  Our instructors’ names were Amy and Robert, two young pups who had much fun pulling our legs and trying to add a little levity to the situation, as you could see the unspoken nervousness in some peoples eyes. “Anyone ever zipped before?”  Silence.  Instruction began and one of the main training points was how to slow down and brake.  Careful training ensued with step by step instructions about the importance of first looking up at the cable, and then placing your hand in the proper position to brake and have control of your speed.  Assessing your position from the treetop landing station and judging your pressure on the wire was very important.

There were several treetop reiteration of this instruction, especially when my best friend came hurling to a landing station full force without heeding Amy’s bird flapping arms indicating SLOW DOWN.

Zipping across the forest tree-tops at 20-40 miles an hour with nothing but the clothes on your back really empowers you to feel like you have control over your destiny, because in this situation, you REALLY do.   If you do not brake correctly you could come up short at the end of the ZIP and have to pull your way into the treetop station. Brake to late and you could crash and burn.  Well, not really, because Amy and Robert are professionals and there are safeguards for that, but you get my meaning.

I don’t know about you it seems to me most people, including me, get caught up in their everyday routines, and all the pressures of life, and we forget to take risks, forget to challenge ourselves, because frankly, we are too tired. Try to make a real effort to do something to challenge yourself, push your comfort zones.   Zip thru life with excitement and no fear.   If you must put on the brakes, do so smoothly with clear intention.  Take your time to assess all choices, consequences, and responsibilities to arrive at any and all destinations and goals.  We always have the choice and the power over our own destinies, even if, at times, it doesn’t feel like it.

Oh, and if you do try something, and you find that it is too overwhelming to handle for where you are today, remember you can always go back and try again. Sometimes when this happens I like to visualize before actually doing the “push my limits” exercise. Like skydiving.  Pretty intense. I thank God the clouds came in after flight school because I had to wait to jump.  I had a whole week to visualize jumping out of that plane, and it helped when it came time to take that leap.

We all really should try to do something at least once a month, definitely once a year, outside our comfort zone. Push yourself to reach the place of challenge and exhilaration because, believe me, it can change your perspective and have a positive impact on how you feel about yourself and your path. Just try it once.  Like the ad says….Just Do It!

You’ll be glad you did. And remember, “It is said, the man who lives without risk, does not live.”

Stolen

Well I’ve debated on whether to even write this or not, but I decided it would be a good idea if even one person is helped by it.

Last week my wallet was stolen, right out of my purse, in a grocery store. I turned my back for a moment when reaching for items, and it was gone when I went to check-out. Damn! No wallet.   Within 20 minutes 3 credit cards had fraudulent charges on them. Thank goodness the grocery store was close to my home and I was able to call all companies and the bank quickly and report the theft.

I was devastated, not to mention angry.  I sometimes forget that there are people in this world who are selfish, criminal and just plain bad.  People who have no regard for others at all.  I tend to think the absolute best of people until they show their ugly side.  I made excuses like they must have been hungry or maybe they had children to feed or they have been out of work, etc.  But the way the charges happened so fast, and in different directions from the store, calculated and direct, made me realize these were just plain thieves, robbers and horrible people. Later that week I discovered that there had been a robbery that same night in the parking garage.

I guess I can count my lucky stars I wasn’t directly engaged and the theft happened without a confrontation, but that doesn’t help the feeling of violation and the headaches of getting your life back in order after this type of ordeal.

It has been a week and there was so much to do.  If this ever happens to you there are obvious actions to take.  1) Call all Credit cards and report cards stolen. 2) Place an alert on all 3 credit agencies regarding stolen wallet.  3) Make a police report that details what happened and the lost sustained.  4) Apply for new License with DMV.

Also, just to prepare for the worst, always keep Credit card info for cards you have in your wallet at home.  Only carry cards you actually use.  And I hope I don’t have to remind everyone to never keep your PINS, social security card or passwords in your wallet. That’s just common sense.   Always make sure you have a secret password on all your credit cards.  It is an additional security piece of information that you can request on your cards.

So this incident is behind me.  I am still disheartened by the apathy of the grocery store and the police, but with everything else going on in the world, I guess one lost wallet is low on the totem pole. And you can be sure these thieves count on that.

So my friends, just a note to stay alert, always keep your purse and wallet close, and try to keep a positive attitude about people when something like this happens.   Lean on your friends and family for moral and emotional support, and remember each day is a gift.  To be lived fully and freely…..while keeping both eyes open about the truth of the less than honest people of the world.

Remember, no one can steal your happiness or love, unless you let them.  Don’t let them!  Back to editing the next DVD – MountainScapes.

Peace, Love and Light always,

New Years – Reflection and Self Discovery

Well it’s another New Years Eve. I always hear that it has come so fast!  And I’m usually the one saying it. It seems like we just had New Years Eve and that I built my vision board for 2012.  But here it is again.  Last year was not the best Holiday Season, at least for me. It wasn’t special, it wasn’t exciting, I didn’t even put up a tree!  This year was different. Amazing how life can change on a dime, isn’t it?

This Christmas was the best Christmas ever, at least that is this writer’s feeling.  This past year has brought both real heartache and true love……all in the same year.  I guess it’s lucky that way.  Balance is important and it is really heaven when we can achieve it amidst a harried and insecure world.

So on the agenda for the holidays was parties with good friends and meeting some new ones; shopping on Christmas Eve to feel the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and of course spending time with my Eric. My tree was the best one ever with butterflies, New Orleans style masks, glitter and every girls favorite, shoe ornaments! All these things made this the best Holiday ever!

On the stressful side this season was Family and work drama.  Sometimes it seems this drama will never end and it’s a part of everyday living, but I believe it’s all in how you hande it. You can be aware of all the drama playing out, choose to acknowledge it and engage in the continuing saga, or be aware of it and decide if engaging in it is worth your time, effort and possible aggravation. Obviously some drama needs to be addressed, especially if it effects your work adversely or family happiness. Maybe sincere apologies need to be made, not only to diffuse the drama, but to mend hearts and families. Maybe a clarification of events or of a discussion that took place. Search your heart and soul and hear what your inner voice is telling you. Don’t be afraid to say you were in the wrong either. It’s not about being right or wrong. Life is all about growth and being real. You can’t be real if you can’t even admit you have faults and make mistakes. And if your soul searching reveals some self-discoveries that are less than pleasant, treat yourself and others, for that matter, with gentle thoughts, love and forgiveness.  It’s the only way……and besides It’s the New Year!   A time for reflection, renewal, and moving past obstacles that keep you from your Fabulous Self!

So my friends, I will close by wishing all of you a safe, drama free, prosperous,  loving New Year. Enjoy the reflective New Years Eve in this, the remainder of 2012. The end of the world did not happen and I’m so glad because I have so much to do! Including finishing yet another TV ArtScapes DVD – HanaScapes and MountainScapes!

Courage

This 4th of July holds a special significance for me. We all know what courage and resolve our forefathers needed to forge a new world order.   This year I have seen courage in some close friends and family, and I, too, have had to muster up a healthy dose.

Courage. It’s not easy.

In this world where technology is increasingly replacing human connection, where jobs are sparse and tempers are high, and where psychological and physical abuse continues to create self-doubt, pain, and fear, Courage is necessary.

*Necessary to really face ourselves, our faults and shortcomings. To be daring and place ourselves out in the world; vulnerable to hurt, failure, or fear of the unknown, or fear of repeating the past.
*Necessary to express who we really are.
*Necessary to be there for others in hard times.
*Necessary to speak up for our truths and our opinions. To have a voice and to know we count. Remembering that every person matters and is entitled to their opinion or truth, and no one is more important than another.

Courage is the nerve to speak up and act on our dreams, or tell our truths even in the face of all our fears.  Fear of not being accepted, being rejected, failing…I’m sure you can fill in whatever fear it is that keeps you from being all you can be; speaking your truth or living your life fully.

It’s not easy.  My last post was about being open.  Being courageous is going one more step and having the guts to place yourself in situations that are hard and that have scary consequences, at least “perceived” scary consequences.   And we tend to be swayed by our expectation of those scary consequences.  But here’s the deal….

Remember that the past does not equal the future, and NOW is the only true time. If we can remember this in every circumstance, and have faith that the universal Mother/Father/God will present what is best and next for us on this road called Life, then we will always have Courage. Our job then becomes the ability to see the path presented and find the choices that are true to who we are and who we want to be.  Trust your intuition on that path. It is the breathe of the Universe.

So this 4th of July, remember courage. Have the courage to speak up and have your voice heard. The courage to face a difficult task or help a friend or family member with a hard choice or situation. The courage to be vulnerable in the world. The courage to be 100% who you really are and find peace, happiness, freedom……..and love.  Your heart will know, trust it.  I do.  It is the greatest gift to ourselves we can give.

Live life, People!  With Love…….. and with COURAGE.

Open

Last weekend I attended a retreat at the the beautiful Glen Ivy Hot Springs Resort and Spa. It was an inspirational place, and I loved it that my room was right next to a stream and waterfall for early morning walks.

The weekend started with a lovely gathering in the main lodge. The theme for the weekend was “love.” Well let’s face it, you can’t get a better topic or a more inspiring focus then that.

The women were from all over, from as far as New York and Canada. We all chose what aspect of love we wanted to focus on for the weekend, and we placed a symbol of that focus on the gold, fabric draped steps of the great room. I thought about what I brought as a symbol of love, and I knew immediately what my focus had to be.

In my hands was a stone shaped heart. I bought it in Sedona, one of the gorgeous places I love to go for reflection and renewal, and it seemed to have all the qualities of love. It had sections to it, lighter sections that seemed to be held together with darker strands of gold. To me the lighter sections symbolized the “pieces” of love, all the emotions and circumstances we encounter like passion, fear, doubt, acceptance, honesty, trust, hurt, compromise….and many more. The dark gold stand symbolized how a relationship is always held together with the power of love. BUT, the best thing about my heart rock was the center. It opened up to reveal dazzling, brilliant, crystals and that is where I found my inspiration for my focus that weekend.

Openness. As I held the heart rock in my hand, I was reminded that being open to love, being open to receive and being open to give, THAT is where the brilliance is. “Open” can be hard as we encounter life’s challenges, as we are hurt by the words and deeds of others, as we navigate our own doubts and build walls of protection and fear. Sometimes our own actions can derail us and we find it difficult to forgive ourselves. But if we open our hearts to the oneness in this world, to the magnificence of every living thing and every other person, we will know and experience love. A love of no judgement, no conditions and a love that includes love of ourselves, because how can there be magnificence in this world and not have it include you? We are all one. I can’t tell you how walking anywhere with a conscious openness can change your life. Peace, joy, a feeling of belonging and that you are never alone. Pretty awesome when we can remember to approach everything in life this way and make a conscious choice to remain open.

I have my stone heart sitting on my nightstand so as I wake up every morning I can remember to be “open” to life’s great treasures; in nature, in people, in the challenges of circumstance. Joy, peace, happiness and love is yours, be open to it.

The brilliance of open …….is magic. May you find it and keep it, for being open is Love.

Hope

So people, some things have happened in my life to bring up the subject of Hope.  Family struggles,  friends doubting themselves or life’s path, and me, struggling with some “Hope” issues of my own.

Hope is a very powerful thing.  It can get you thru each day when the days are filled with hardship, both emotionally and physically.  It is sometimes hard to find when the days are looking dark, you are feeling quite alone and you can’t seem to grasp any energy and picture your life in a positive light.   Here are some things that I do to turn that darkness into light.

 1)      Be still and thank the universe (This is the “God” of your faith).  Give thanks and gratitude for living, for this wonderful school of life, for this wonderful experience called “human,” flaws and all.  Truly think about all that is you, all that you have accomplished. If you feel like you have not accomplished anything, just look at the fact that you are a powerful, beautiful being.  One that has choices and control over what to create in this life.  Choice is truly a gift.  Being thankful and recognizing the gifts you have in your life, is the first step to Hope.

 2)      Get clear on what you “think” you need.  I only put it that way because sometimes what we think we need is so far from the truth.  State what this is in clear, concise sentences.  Even better to write it down because action has power and moves energy.  And always say, “I humbly request, this, or in your infinite wisdom, something better.”  This is because the universe knows exactly what we need, even though it doesn’t feel like it sometimes!

 3)      Ask the universe to provide direction for you.  Mother/Father God is very good at putting up sign posts and synchronicities in your life to point you in the right direction. It is up to us to recognize them and act.

 4)      Trust yourself when taking action…. Or no action.  I say this because sign posts and directions sometimes point to “wait.”  This can be really hard, especially for those of us who are used to action, action, and more action.  Yes, I am guilty of this, but I’ve come to realize the wisdom of doing nothing in certain situations.  No action is really an action, it is the action of wait till I receive better information, or wait because it looks like a current path is harmful to you or others.  And try not to confuse a “no action” feeling with fear of action.  This too is difficult, but if you really look at what actions are speaking to you, it should be obvious which ones are tied to fear.  Over coming that fear might be the right road.  Only you can get to the heart of that one.

 5)      One day at a time.  If you constantly look at your life in terms of past and future, you will set yourself up.  Now this is fine if your entire life has been bliss.  But hardship and pain has a way of latching onto us, living in our bodies and our souls, and cropping up as fear for future and present situations.  It’s called being Human!  Remember the past does not necessarily equal the future, and no one can predict the future.  NOW is the only way to live.  Don’t miss it by being depressed, fearful and preoccupied with “what if.” Take today for today, live life to the fullest, because TODAY is a sure thing.

 6)      Lastly, know that the universe and the energy that drives her, does not wish anything but love and the best for us. She wants us to be loved and to love…. to be creative and powerful beings, free to chose our destiny’s.  I know because I feel that love and supportive energy every day.  I see it in the beauty and balance of nature;  I see it the faces of children;  I see it when I experience a kind gesture from someone; I see it in the little miracles that happen when you least expect it.

Hope….. it is a blessed virtue, and I wish it for everyone so that they may find their own majesty, beauty and grace.  Love and Light, my beautiful people.  Till next time on this journey of discovery!
